Imagined Artifacts
I remain to be most fascinated by items of functional fantasy. Items crafted with the whimsy, techniques and attention to detail of craftsmen long gone, yet placed into a contemporary setting of imagined tales.
Whether I am crafting a tiny earring or an epic weapon fit for a hero, I hope to breathe life and mystique into each piece that leaves my workshop.
The culture of mythical stories
In my eyes, the unique and most enjoyable factor is the diversity of art and craft I practice and offer. Primarily tying the artstyle, item, materials and thought behind an object together to come up with an heirloom.
All while taking inspiration from historical artifacts, techniques by which they were made and rules of designwork of craftsmen long gone, hoping to make them feel that much more real.
I most often work with items made from traditional materials, such as natural materials, variously engraved and carved wrought iron and steel. Precious or more exotic materials are incorporated when called for, depending on the individual design.
Turning your ideas and concepts into reality is most rewarding. If you would like to share them with me, contact me.
The Wayfarer’s Axe
“Better burden may no man bear
for wandering wide than wisdom fair
Better than wealth in unknown ways
A refuge in grief for all your days”
Poem adorned blade. Since meant to be used by a traveller, it is rather lightweight and detachable in the middle of the haft to be stowed in a pack.
Helmet of the King under the Mountain
Collaboration with Petr Florianek and Thoradin Ambolt
Credit to Petr Florianek for the designwork
A collaborative project, during which the three dwarves worked in unison to craft this helmet. The helmet design is loosely inspired by historical artifacts to create a deeper sense of tangibility and cultural belonging.
The helm is adorned with a crown of pressblech ornaments, densely carved and sculpted brow & moustache of brass and an engraved face shield. Inlaid with gemstones.
